💰 $130,000 - $190,000 🌍 Reno, Nevada 📅 03/28/2026
Apply**This is NOT a full-time developer role.**
We are not looking for someone to build features or write application code.
If your background is primarily full-stack or application development, this
role is likely not a fit.
We are looking for a senior systems architect to evaluate and guide an
internal operational platform built over 30+ years.
We’ve spent ~30+ years building an internal operating system (“TEC”) that runs
a real business—estimating, scheduling, accounting, project management, and
day-to-day operations.
It wasn’t built by software engineers. It was built by operators solving real
problems in live projects.
Now we’re evaluating what the next version should be.
⸻
**About Us**
Pacific West is a design-build multifamily builder based in Northern
California and Nevada.
We design, engineer, and build apartment communities. Over time, TEC became
the backbone of how we actually run projects—not just a reporting layer, but
something people use every day to make decisions.
It’s deeply practical. It also shows its age.
⸻
**What You’ll Do**
This is not a traditional “come build features” role.
The initial focus is:
• Understand how the current system actually works (and why)
• Map workflows across estimating, accounting, scheduling, and operations
• Identify what should be preserved vs. redesigned
• Recommend a future architecture (likely cloud-based, Azure-oriented)
• Help determine whether to evolve, rebuild, or rethink the system entirely
You’ll work directly with ownership and the people who use the system every
day.
This is an exploratory role. Compensation and structure (advisory, contract,
or full-time) will be determined based on fit and scope.
⸻
**What Makes This Interesting**
• 30–40 years of real operational logic embedded in the system
• Hundreds of forms and workflows that actually get used
• A chance to design from first principles—not inherit a modern stack
• Clear domain: multifamily construction and development
• Strong emphasis on practicality over theory
⸻
**What We’re Looking For**
• Experience designing or evaluating complex systems (not just building
features)
• Ability to translate real-world workflows into technical architecture
• Comfort working in messy, non-ideal legacy environments
• Strong judgment: what to keep, what to replace, what to ignore
• Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders
Nice to have:
• Experience with systems that run real operations (ERP, construction tech,
logistics, manufacturing, etc.)
• Familiarity with Azure or similar cloud platforms
⸻
**Engagement**
We’re open on structure:
• Initial evaluation / advisory engagement
• Potential longer-term role if there’s a strong fit
This is not a high-volume hiring process—we’re looking for the right mind.

useful than a formal resume.
