Job Description

Business-Curious Builder & Team Leader

Location: Remote
Reports To: CEO
Type: Full-time

About Us:
We’re a fast-growing legal tech company transforming how estate and trust work
gets done. Our platform automates the most complex, tedious parts of trust and
estate administration and planning—freeing up time and reducing friction for
attorneys and fiduciaries. We’re scaling fast, and we’re looking for a hands-
on engineering leader who’s not just technically strong, but deeply curious
about our business and our users.

About the Role:
We’re hiring a **VP of Technology** who combines technical excellence with a
business-first mindset. You’ll guide the engineering team and build alongside
them—but this role goes far beyond code. We want someone who takes real
initiative to understand the "why" behind our platform: why our users choose
us, what problems they’re solving, and how our work can drive better business
outcomes.
You’ll lead the team by example—digging into user feedback, asking questions
about business priorities, and actively seeking out inefficiencies or
opportunities across the product. If you see something broken, unclear, or
misaligned, you speak up and help fix it. This is a role for a curious,
proactive problem-solver who wants their technical work to matter.

What You’ll Do:

* Lead and mentor a growing technical team while remaining a strong individual contributor
* Collaborate closely with design, and business leadership to connect technical initiatives to business goals
* Own technical delivery with a focus on solving real user and business problems—not just implementing specs
* Get curious: actively engage and get deeply familiar with our users’ workflows and pain points, and use those insights to inform architectural and product decisions
* Treat code as a profit engine—model how every technical decision impacts acquisition, retention, and margin expansion, then optimize accordingly
* Write clean, scalable, and production-ready code each week
* Proactively identify technical, operational, or UX bottlenecks—and lead efforts to address them before they grow
* Champion practical uses of AI, automation, and systems design to accelerate product outcomes
* Investigate and solve problems before they become blockers—technical, operational, or user-facing
* Own pre-release readiness: configuration, QA coordination, communication, and release confidence
* Collaborate closely and proactively with design, product, and leadership to drive smart, user-informed development

What We’re Looking For:

* 6–10 years of hands-on engineering experience, including in fast-paced product environments
* A strong personal interest in understanding how businesses work and how users interact with software
* An eye for product design and usability
* Deep curiosity—you ask “why?” constantly and never stop learning
* Excellent communication—you share context clearly and early with both technical and non-technical collaborators
* A bias toward action and ownership—you don’t wait to be told what’s broken or what to do next
* Have a deep curiosity about how our business works, how our users think, and what makes the product valuable
* Are naturally proactive—you look for the root cause, offer solutions, and don't wait to be asked
* Understand that technical decisions are also business decisions
* Demonstrated experience guiding technical teams, mentoring developers, and shipping high-impact work
* Experience in legal tech, fintech, or complex B2B SaaS
* Familiarity with AI/LLM tools and their practical applications
* Previous experience building engineering process around release management, observability, or DevOps
* Demonstrated success shipping production-grade, full-stack solutions across our entire tech ecosystem—from React + TypeScript with Apollo Client on the front end to Node.js + TypeScript and PostgreSQL on the back end—deployed on AWS via Docker/Bitbucket pipelines
* Bonus: Built and scaled AI/ML/LLM inference endpoints as Docker or serverless microservices, integrating them into revenue-critical workflows.
