Apply### **About LoanLight**
LoanLight is an AI-powered automated underwriting platform for non-qualified
mortgage (non-QM) loans. Founded by industry veterans and backed by top-tier
investors,we combine AI-driven decisioning and automated workflows to simplify
and accelerate non-QM origination at enterprise scale.
Our lean team ships fast, iterates constantly, and obsesses over practical,
customer-centric solutions. If you thrive on autonomy, enjoy turning ambiguity
into elegant code, and want to influence the technical roadmap from day one,
we’d love to meet you.

### **Position Overview**
As a core individual contributor and early engineering hire, you’ll help shape
our engineering culture while designing, building, and shipping major parts of
our underwriting platform—backend services, AI-driven workflows, and the cloud
infrastructure that supports them. You’ll collaborate directly with the
founders, product, and design, but you’ll own your work end-to-end, driving
architectural calls and writing production code every day.

### **Key Responsibilities**
1. **Applied AI**
* Contribute to developing, testing, deploying, and monitoring end-to-end product capabilities in short, iterative cycles.
* Design and improve systems combining LLM-based structured extraction with flexible workflow orchestration to support parsing, validation, and decisioning, ensuring reliable and transparent system behavior across complex lending workflows.
* Develop evaluation and monitoring systems to assess system output and agent performance.
* Balance rapid experimentation to inform product discovery with long-term platform health and maintainability.
* Assess when different approaches (LLM-driven, agentic, traditional ML, procedural) are most appropriate given functional requirements, choosing solutions that maximize simplicity, reliability, and maintainability.
2. **ML Ops**
* Advance data maturity practices, including data quality checks, schema/versioning, lineage tracking, reproducibility, and governance.
* Productionize applied AI solutions by developing and integrating platform components (APIs, feature stores, embedding/vector databases, etc.), managing scalable infrastructure, and implementing CI/CD pipelines for training, evaluation, deployment, and rollback.
* Own observability, including logging, metrics, and alerting for all production systems.
3. **Full-Stack Engineering & Breadth**
* We’re a startup, so candidates should be comfortable contributing across the full stack as needed.
* Build secure, scalable APIs and services in TypeScript/NestJS on AWS (via CDK).
4. **Technical Stewardship**
* Document and communicate architectural choices clearly.
* Lead by example in code reviews and pair-programming sessions, up-leveling teammates without formal management responsibilities.
* * *
### **Desired Skills & Experience**
We’re looking for candidates with a foundation in **Applied AI, ML Ops, or
data engineering** , curiosity about or experience with agentic architectures,
and comfort working across the stack. Candidates do not need to meet every
bullet — drive, flexibility, and learning ability matters most.
* 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production work with ML systems (TypeScript preferred).
* Experience with ML/MLOps, deploying and operating ML-enabled systems in production, or a strong interest in learning these practices.
* Practical experience or strong curiosity about agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain) and emerging LLM orchestration tools.
* Hands-on AWS experience (ECS or Lambda, RDS/PostgreSQL, S3, CloudFront) and comfort with infrastructure-as-code via CDK, or willingness to grow in these areas.
* Comfortable navigating ambiguous requirements, making pragmatic trade-offs, and delivering value quickly.
* Experience in early-stage startups or small engineering teams where you’ve had broad technical impact is a strong plus.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; adept at async collaboration in a remote-first environment.
* Experience in regulated domains , especially mortgage, is a big plus but not required.
* * *
### **Professional Qualities We Value**
* **Ownership Mindset** – You see problems through to resolution without waiting to be told.
* **Bias for Action** – You prototype, iterate, and ship; perfection is not a goal, progress is.
* **Pragmatic Craftsmanship** – You know when to spike code and when to harden it.
* **Continuous Learner** – Especially around emerging AI tooling and the non-QM lending domain.
* **Clear Communicator** – You can explain complex ideas plainly to technical and non-technical teammates alike.
* * *
### **Compensation & Benefits**
* Competitive salary plus meaningful equity
* Medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)
* Flexible PTO and remote-first culture (US required; periodic team off-sites)
