**About our client**
Our client is an innovative neurotechnology company transforming the treatment
of depression through advanced FDA-cleared precision therapy platforms. Their
SaaS-based technology delivers personalized and targeted treatments for
patients with Treatment Resistant Depression, while also expanding into
solutions for bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, anxiety, and other
mental health conditions.
The engineering organization is highly technical, mission-driven, and focused
on building secure, scalable infrastructure supporting real-world medical data
and connected medical devices within a regulated healthcare environment.
**About the Role**
Our client is seeking a highly technical Senior Cloud & Backend Engineer to
take ownership of scalable multi-account AWS infrastructure while contributing
directly to backend microservices and platform engineering initiatives.
This role bridges infrastructure engineering, backend development, DevOps, and
production operations. You will help scale cloud-native systems, expand event-
driven API workflows, improve observability, strengthen cybersecurity
controls, and support mission-critical production systems operating in a
HIPAA-conscious environment.
This is a hands-on engineering role with broad ownership across AWS
infrastructure, Kubernetes operations, backend services, CI/CD automation,
reliability engineering, and cloud security.
What You’ll Do
**Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps**
* Design, build, and maintain scalable multi-account AWS infrastructure across production, staging, security, shared services, and R&D environments
* Manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and AWS-native tooling
* Operate and optimize Kubernetes workloads running on AWS EKS
* Improve deployment automation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure reliability using Bitbucket Pipelines and related DevOps tooling
* Support cloud networking architecture including VPCs, public/private subnets, VPNs, Transit Gateways, VPC Peering, and zero-trust networking principles
* Contribute to cloud security initiatives including IAM policies, AWS WAF, key rotation, and load balancing strategies
Backend & API Engineering
* Build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js (TypeScript/JavaScript) and Python
* Develop distributed and event-driven microservices leveraging AWS SNS and SQS
* Support scalable backend architectures, asynchronous processing systems, and workflow orchestration
* Work with MongoDB Atlas, ElasticSearch, and relational databases to support high-performance application services
Observability & Production Operations
* Improve observability, monitoring, logging, and operational alerting across cloud infrastructure and backend systems
* Support log aggregation pipelines using Fluent Bit, CloudWatch, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry
* Participate in Tier-3 production incident response, root-cause analysis, debugging, and operational recovery workflows
* Help establish engineering standards, operational best practices, and platform reliability processes
Security & Compliance
* Support HIPAA-conscious cloud infrastructure and healthcare security best practices
* Contribute to identity and access management workflows including SAML, OIDC, Auth0, and enterprise SSO integrations
* Implement data protection, de-identification, and secure operational controls for regulated healthcare environments
* Partner closely with engineering, product, and clinical teams to support secure and scalable platform delivery
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
* 5+ years of experience in Cloud Infrastructure, Backend Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or related roles
* Strong AWS experience across services such as EKS, VPC, S3, API Gateway, CloudFront, SNS, SQS, WAF, Route53, and CloudWatch
* Hands-on backend development experience using Node.js (TypeScript/JavaScript) and/or Python
* Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling including Terraform
* Experience managing Kubernetes environments and containerized workloads (Docker, EKS, Karpenter, ECS, etc.)
* Strong understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous architectures, APIs, and scalable microservices
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and cloud monitoring systems
* Familiarity with MongoDB, ElasticSearch, MySQL, or similar data platforms
* Experience working in regulated environments (HIPAA, healthcare, medical devices, SOC2, GDPR, FDA-regulated systems, etc.) strongly preferred
* Strong communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, cross-functional engineering environments
Nice to Have
* Experience supporting scientific or medical data processing pipelines
* Familiarity with neuroimaging workflows, medical data formats, or healthcare SaaS platforms
* Experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Fluent Bit, Auth0, or enterprise identity systems
**Location & Work Environment**
This position is open to full-time employees or experienced contractors and
offers a flexible remote work environment within the United States.
The engineering team is collaborative, highly technical, and mission-driven,
offering strong opportunities for ownership, technical influence, and
meaningful impact in the neurotechnology and mental health space.
**Compensation**
Compensation is expected to fall within the range of approximately
$200,000–$220,000 annually, depending on experience, technical depth,
certifications, and geographic location.
