Job Description

**Who is Hope Street?**

Hope Street Group is a 5 person ed-tech non-profit startup focused on helping
students be confident and ready for their futures.

We each come from different backgrounds and lived experiences but work
together on this mission based on our shared values.

* Inspiring
* We strive to inspire our community, each other, and our selves
* Inclusive
* We make critical decisions openly, we create products that create intellectual safety, and we do our best to help everyone feel a sense of belonging both in our mission and as a startup.
* Curious
* We by nature are very curious people, and we strive to create an environment and products that evoke curiosity in others. We have lots of “yes and” energy and we love when experiments and conversations go in unexpectedly valuable ways.
* Ambitious
* We each come from unique prestigious and rigorous pasts and our goal is to help every single high school student in the US reach their goals. We also aim to help our community be more ambitious with it’s use of AI and in shaping future careers.

**Why are we hiring?**

Our team is working on our latest version of our ground breaking ed-tech (AI)
app for high school students.

We’re a product team of 2 previous teachers turned engineers looking for our
third hire to join us on our journey to 100,000 active students.

Our vision is to shape the current app from a free exploration product, into a
duolingo-like/quest based experience where students and teachers can pick from
dozens of award winning AI quests that can help students both learn about AI
and shape their futures.

**Who might be a great fit for this role?**
Someone who

* Has experience building tech products that have reached some reasonable amount of scale.
* Written, assessed, and iterated on complex AI prompts in a production code base.
* Is passionate about helping students understand their career options in high school.
* Believes it is future critical that students get exposed to and learn AI as early as possible
* Has worked in, been exposed to, or has lived experiences that helps them connect with teachers, schools, classrooms, and students (particularly high school). For example, you may
* have been a previous teacher, did academic research on schools
* worked with middle to high school aged youth in an educational capacity, like summer camp or after school programs
* come from a family of educators
* Has worked in, been exposed to, or has lived experiences in gaming or ed-tech gamification. Maybe you
* designed a board game or an online game
* launched a mobile game

**What kinds of technical things do we work with?**

* ChatGPT (and any all other competitive LLMs in the ecosystem for dev), Flux, AWS (lambdas, s3, events bridge), Supabase
* Javascript, TypeScript, React, Postgres, Supabase
* DevX tooling like copilot & cursor.
* CI/CD like Vercel & Github Actions

While we initially launched the FutureMe product on Mobile, we are working to
rebuild our experiences for web to coincide with our partner schools that are
banning all mobile devices.

**What might a day in the life look like?**

Weekly Cadence
As a team we often set individual weekly goals on Monday, with a demo
typically ready by our All-Hands calls on Thursdays.

Daily Cadence
On any given day working remote at Hope Street Group it might look like this

* quick update to the team about your daily goals and what wants to come alive today for you
* a series of stream of conscious updates in slack, notion, miro, or wherever it takes you
* a few calls with teammates to help process thoughts
* maybe a call with a student, teacher, or administrator to help get you the inspiration and awareness you need to deliver great products
* sharing sneak peaks of what you are demoing later in the week and getting early feedback

The team is generally most active from 11-2 PST which provides the most
overlap for team members across the various US time zones.

Quarterly Cadence
At HSG we set major goals at a quarterly level. An example goal you might have
would be to relaunch one of our current products or to build a new product
such as our facilitator product (<http://bit.ly/4ms4Pzm>) or our student-
facing app (<https://discover.hopestreetgroup.org/>), or to build a new
product addon for a student organization like FFA, FBLA, or ASA EvolveMe.

Travel
Once every other quarter we travel to a school, a conference, or a major event
that helps us both connect as a team and better understand the needs of the
students, teachers, and schools that we build for. Every time we get together
we all leave feeling this sense of renewed purpose and excitement for where we
are headed next.
