Donna Technologies is a legal-tech company reimagining the future of document
work for lawyers. We are building the next generation of word-processing: a
multi-document, IDE-style drafting environment designed for complex legal
workflows, introducing the structure, speed, and intelligence of an
engineering-grade workspace.
**What You’ll Do**
This is a founding seat — you’ll shape Donna’s technical foundation, culture,
and first product releases. You’ll work directly with the founder (ex-Meta,
Harvard CS) to turn our prototype into a scalable platform used daily by legal
professionals. You will:
* Lead development of the core editor and collaboration features (Nest.js + TypeScript + Electron + Aspose + AI APIs)
* Architect backend systems for document parsing, change tracking, and version sync
* Integrate intelligent features powered by LLMs
* Collaborate closely to refine UX and workflows
* Help recruit and mentor the next wave of engineers
**Must Haves**
* 3+ years of professional software engineering experience (startup experience a plus)
* Computer Science degree or coding bootcamp completion
* Strong experience in modern full-stack and backend frameworks (React / Nest.js / Node / TypeScript)
* Comfort working 50+ hour weeks when needed — you’re hungry and deeply committed to the mission
* Thrives in ambiguity — you can turn fuzzy goals into concrete progress
* Excellent communication skills — you write and speak clearly, and can explain technical ideas simply
* Bias for action — you ship fast, iterate, and learn
**Nice to Haves**
* Experience with rich text editors (Tiptap, ProseMirror, Slate, Lexical, etc.)
* Experience working with .docx files or document-processing libraries (Aspose, Mammoth, Pandoc, etc.)
* Interest or experience in legal tech, productivity tools, or workflow design
* Non-technical interests like writing, design, or philosophy — we value creativity and broad thinking
* Familiarity or willingness to learn desktop app development (ex: Electron)
* Understanding of data security and privacy in legal industry
