PHOCIS Tech© is the Digital Clearing Platform built for Direct and Private
Lenders—replacing traditional escrow with FDIC-insured Clearing Accounts held
under the lender’s EIN, powered by Wells Fargo custody, with automated
compliance rails.
We’re hiring a hands-on technical leader who can ship, own the architecture,
and lead a small team (including India-based developers). This can be a direct
Head of Tech hire, or a Technical Lead who ramps into Head of Tech once you’ve
proven you can run the room.
Location requirement (READ THIS):
This role is Los Angeles-based. You must live in Los Angeles, CA (or be
willing to relocate immediately) and you must want face-to-face work. We do
monthly in-person meetups in LA with the CEO and potential team members. If
you’re looking for “remote-only,” this is not it.
This is not a “manage contractors and write Jira tickets” job.
You build. You decide. You deliver.

What you’ll own (the real work)
Phase 1 — Finish the current platform
• Stabilize + harden the existing banking/clearing stack
• Close gaps in ledgering, controls, audit trails, and operational tooling
• Build reliability into account setup, movement rules, permissions, and
reporting
Phase 2 — Build the next platform (V2)
• Architect a cleaner core (ledger-first thinking, compliance-first workflows)
• Design API-first services for integrations (banking, reporting, marketing
ops, internal tools)
• Establish standards: security, observability, release discipline, data
correctness
Phase 3 — Data + migration into broader distribution
• Data migration planning + execution
• Expand integrations (multiple banking rails over time)
• Lay the foundation for a future B2C motion without breaking the lender-
native core

What “good” looks like (first 60–90 days)
• You can explain our system like you built it (because you basically will)
• You’ve shipped meaningful improvements to stability + speed of onboarding
• You’ve set a clear technical roadmap and cut the fluff from it
• You’ve made the India team faster, not louder

What you must be
• A builder who has shipped real systems (fintech, payments, banking, lending,
or regulated workflows)
• Comfortable with money movement logic, auditability, and failure modes
• Strong API + backend instincts (clean contracts, real testing, real
monitoring)
• Security-minded (least privilege, data handling discipline; SOC2 posture is
a plus)
• Able to lead humans across time zones without babysitting

Team + collaboration
You will work directly with the CEO (Nate) and operate hand-and-glove with our
overseas technology team. You’ll also coordinate with Growth/Marketing ops
because onboarding and compliance workflows touch everything.

Compensation
We’re bootstrapped. Early on, compensation is project-based upside with a
clear path into salary + health coverage after an initial 60-90 day ramp
period, tied to performance and company traction (lender onboarding and/or
investor capital).
