### Bindery is a platform for tastemakers to become publishers.
Our platform aims to be the best place for bookish creators, curators, and
tastemakers to build community. Tastemakers with large communities, upon
invitation, can open a publishing imprint to surface new stories their
communities will love. By democratizing acquisitions and empowering
tastemakers to shine their light on deserving writers, we’re building a more
creative, equitable, and independent world of books and IP.
We’re looking for a Lead Product Engineer to work closely with the Cofounders,
CTO, and Product Designer to own and elevate Bindery’s core product
experience. They will bring the product vision to life on a fast-scaling
platform that’s already proven the effectiveness of this novel approach to
next-generation media. In our first year of publishing, our platform laid the
groundwork for major bestsellers, dozens of IP deals, over ten major best-of
lists, distribution into thousands of bookstores globally, and a film
adaptation.
Our ideal Lead Product Engineer shares our passion for books and reading,
cares deeply about innovation in media, is a strong collaborator and
communicator, has a rigorous eye for detail and user experience, approaches
problems with openness and creativity, and delivers high quality products that
people love to use.
Who You Are:
* **You’re mission aligned**. You love books and consider yourself part of a reader/fan community, and you’re inspired by the idea of making it possible for important new voices and stories to break through. You believe in the power of human curation & community and their increasing importance in an age of AI. A shared mission and passion for this space is part of what will make our team achieve great things together.
* **You’re consumer startup-seasoned**. You have 5-10+ years of consumer software experience and possess strong engineering skills across the full stack, web and mobile apps. You’ve thrived at a high-growth scaling consumer start-up.
* **You’re an expert executor**. You balance speed, scalability, and process to ensure we hold a high quality bar for ourselves and users. You build incrementally & iteratively, using short feedback cycles, data, and user insights to validate we’re building the right products in the right order.
* **You’re highly accountable**. You follow-through on your commitments, register your misses, and use those as opportunities to learn and improve. Your design, product, and business judgment have resulted in effective prioritization decisions, products people love, and significant business value.
* **You 're a high-potential manager and leader**. You have some experience hiring, developing people, setting goals, and delivering feedback that resulted in engaged & high-performing teams doing their best work. You’re a naturally transparent communicator, you structure arguments with logic and data, you’re effective at narrating trade-offs, you seek cross-functional alignment across the team, and you generate trust from everyone you encounter.
* **You’re resourceful**. You love to work in a small-team environment, build from scratch while planning for the long term, and occasionally do unscalable things to get your team closer to where the product needs to go. You prefer to make technology decisions using third-party options where it helps us deliver even faster.
* **You’re a design thinker**. You are able to put yourself in the shoes of the people who use what you make. You obsess over details, look and feel, experience, and how to create moments of delight.
* **You’re deeply collaborative**. You take a lot of ownership over your goals, have high emotional intelligence, and approach conflict from a place of generosity and empathy. You navigate disagreement early, directly, and respectfully while inspiring others to do the same.
* Bonus points for prior experience with content, community, membership/subscription, or affiliate products.
