Position Overview
We are seeking a Mobile App DevOps Engineer to build, maintain, and scale the
cloud infrastructure supporting our iOS, Android, and web platforms. This role
will be responsible for application deployments, backend infrastructure,
database management, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, security, and cloud cost
optimization.
The ideal candidate has experience supporting consumer-facing mobile
applications and can build systems that remain reliable, secure, and cost-
effective as user growth accelerates.
As we are currently in early stages of pre release looking to launch into
Alpha/Beta state, we are only seeking approximately 10 hours a week in work.
Compensation is flexible and will be discussed upon a second interview.
Responsibilities
Mobile App Infrastructure
* Design and maintain backend infrastructure supporting iOS and Android applications.
* Manage API servers, databases, storage systems, and networking components.
* Ensure high availability and performance for all user-facing services.
* Configure infrastructure for scalability as user volume grows.
Mobile CI/CD & Release Management
* Build and maintain automated deployment pipelines for backend services.
* Support iOS App Store and Google Play Store release workflows.
* Automate testing, deployment validation, and rollback procedures.
* Coordinate production releases with development teams.
Database & Storage Management
* Administer PostgreSQL databases and optimize query performance.
* Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
* Manage user-generated content storage including profile photos and media.
* Optimize storage architecture to reduce operational costs.
Performance & Reliability
* Monitor application uptime, latency, API response times, and error rates.
* Configure alerting systems for outages and performance degradation.
* Perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive solutions.
* Establish reliability standards and service-level objectives.
Security
* Implement authentication and authorization best practices.
* Manage API security, secrets management, and encryption.
* Conduct vulnerability assessments and security audits.
* Ensure compliance with privacy and data protection requirements.
Cloud Cost Optimization
* Continuously monitor cloud spending and resource utilization.
* Reduce unnecessary infrastructure expenses while maintaining performance.
* Optimize storage, data transfer, CDN usage, and database resources.
* Forecast infrastructure requirements based on user growth projections.
Collaboration
* Work closely with mobile developers, backend engineers, product managers, and designers.
* Assist development teams with deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure issues.
* Create and maintain technical documentation.
* Establish operational best practices across engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
* 3+ years of DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering experience.
* Experience supporting production mobile applications.
* Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
* Experience managing PostgreSQL databases.
* Experience with Docker containers.
* Experience building CI/CD pipelines.
* Strong understanding of API architecture and networking.
* Knowledge of monitoring and observability platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience supporting dating, social networking, messaging, or marketplace applications.
* Experience with AWS services including EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Route 53, and CloudWatch.
* Experience with Firebase services and mobile analytics.
* Knowledge of push notification infrastructure.
* Experience scaling applications beyond 100,000 monthly active users.
* Startup experience in fast-paced product environments.
