### About Zephyr

Growing disaster risk is undermining property insurance across the U.S.
Resilience upgrades that dramatically reduce storm damage exist, but no one is
connecting the contractors, evaluators, insurers, and capital needed to
deliver them at scale. Zephyr is changing that.

We're building the infrastructure—digital and physical—that makes verified
resilience upgrades actionable for property owners and embedded in the way
homes are financed, maintained, and insured. Our platform connects
contractors, insurers, lenders, and property data to deliver upgrades at
scale. We're focused on the U.S. regional markets where wind and hail risk is
growing fastest.

### The Role

You'll be responsible for turning early-stage prototypes into production
infrastructure. This is a 0-to-1 build: limited inherited codebase, no legacy
system. You'll own the full stack—backend services, cloud infrastructure, data
workflows, and a lightweight partner-facing web interface. The work spans
building and deploying Python-based backend services, integrating AI APIs into
real workflows, handling structured and unstructured data reliably, and
standing up the security foundations our product requires. You'll ship working
software to real partners early and iterate based on their feedback.

You'll work closely with the CEO and Zephyr's Head of Analytics—who built the
initial prototype—and with domain experts across insurance and construction.
Expect a small, fast team with significant ownership and direct access to end
users from day one.

### Who You Are

You're a full-stack engineer who ships. You're comfortable in early-stage
ambiguity, you've built something from scratch before, and you care more about
getting the product into users' hands than about having a perfect spec.

### Must-Haves

* **Python backend experience.** FastAPI, Flask, or similar. You can design and ship a web service.
* **AI / LLM API integration.** Hands-on experience calling AI APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or comparable)—structured outputs, prompt engineering, and integrating model responses into product workflows.
* **Cloud deployment fundamentals.** You can provision, deploy, and monitor a small service on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
* **Data handling at scale.** Object storage, streaming uploads, chunking. You know how to move data through a pipeline reliably.
* **Security basics.** Auth, encryption at rest and in transit, secret management, audit logging. Not a security engineer, but you build secure-by-default.
* **Light frontend capability.** React, HTMX, or similar—enough to stand up a functional partner-facing UI.
* **Startup comfort.** You can operate without a PM, a handoff doc, or a fully scoped ticket.

### Nice-to-Haves

* Insurance, construction, or inspection domain experience
* Experience with document processing or computer vision APIs
* Prior solo-engineer or founding-engineer experience at an early-stage company

### Not Required

* ML research background
* Formal building code and resiliency knowledge
* Deep frontend specialization

* * *

### Why Zephyr

* **You 're building the product, not inheriting one.** No legacy system. The architecture decisions you make now define what this becomes.
* **Real traction, not a pitch deck.** Working prototypes, design partners, and a go-to-market already in motion.
* **Proprietary data foundation.** Zephyr has assembled a proprietary property dataset that gives our platform a structural advantage.
* **Ship to users in weeks.** You'll have direct access to partners and end users from day one. Feedback loops are measured in days, not quarters.
* **Concrete impact.** Verified resilience upgrades reduce storm damage by up to 80%. Everything you build helps address America's looming insurability crisis.
