Planetary is looking for a Director of Engineering that will be able to help
support and develop the company’s growing engineering practice. This role will
take on the task of architecting technical solutions across our portfolio of
clients to solve for business needs, mentor and manage Planetary engineers to
ensure high-quality implementations, and meet with clients and prospects to
discuss their needs and possible solutions.
The ideal candidate for this role is capable of turning non-technical requests
into technical solutions for engineers to implement, and breaking down
technical solutions into non-technical explanations for clients. You should be
aware of and interested in exploring, testing, and evaluating products and
tools at the cutting-edge, as well as capable of making recommendations that
are stable, scalable, and in alignment with Planetary’s best practices.
As a part of Planetary, you'll have the opportunity to shape projects, dive
into complex business problems, and devise valuable and interesting solutions
for our team and clients. You will have ownership over your department and the
opportunity to exercise your skills and expertise across many of our clients.

* Planning against a client’s business needs, existing vendors and architectural limitations, and customer expectations.
* Designing and building architectural diagrams and recommendation documents.
* Implementing or establishing core elements of project architecture to prepare for development team implementation.
* Estimating levels of effort for implementation based on recommendations.
* Collaborating with other teammates to solve complex implementation challenges.
* Reviewing the code of teammates, providing feedback, and identifying issues or adjustments.

frequently use Vercel, Next.js, and Sanity CMS as core products. We set a high

* be able to rapidly prototype features in code
* be self-motivated and excellent at time management
* be based within the continental United States
